Village of Hope Updates

Time magazine has an article on the recent expulsion of parents from the Village of Hope in Ain Leuh, Morocco. The BBC has a radio interview with one of the Village of Hope parents. This interview is insightful and informative. If you have not seen it yet, here is a video from the Village of Hope just after the children were told that they would be separated from the adults who had cared for some of them for as long as ten years.

Have you seen the one who denies religion?  It is he who turns away the orphan and does not urge others to feed the poor….

(Surah  107:  Ayah  1-3)

  1. Dearest Jettie and Herman,

Jettie, I remember clearly seing you peeling fruit for your children with so much joy, I remember you saying how much it meant to you seing the washing line outside filled your children’s clothes… And Herman, I remember clearly listening to your voice’s tone changing quite a number of times to make your storytelling more vivid and exciting for the children whose giggles we could listen from outside your boys’ bedroom. And then I remember how punctual you both were to be at home when your children would arrive from school, even though the place where you all lived was safe and being outside was absolutelly safe… Then, Jettie, I remember your concern about your children’s teeth, and I remember, Herman your smile when you described some moments of a big family’s routine, as for example cutting all the children’s nails…

I also remember seing your natural children taking care of their Moroccon brothers and sisters. You were THE real parents and that reflected so perfectly also on all your children.

    My heart is with you.
